Can coffee diet help with your weight loss goals?

Coffee for weight loss

Mostly people start their day with a cup of coffee. In fact, quite a lot of people consume coffee at regular intervals because of its aroma and the instant energy that it provides. However, if you have to stay fit, the first criteria that any trainer puts forward is to avoid coffee. Moreover, it’s a big ‘no’ to have coffee in an empty stomach. Coffee lovers are so much addicted to it that they feel it would be a bad day without that morning coffee. So, lets answer one of the billion-dollar question – ‘Can we lose weight without avoiding coffee?’

Coffee Diet

The answer is ‘Yes, we can’. According to Dr. Bob Arnot, who developed the famous ‘Coffee Diet’, even a fitness freak seeking to lose weight can have up to three cups of coffee per day. Even experts say that one can have coffee as the main ingredient in one of their meals or snacks as per their wish. All you have to do are some basic hacks to fit your ‘coffee diet’ into your fitness diet plan. Here are some of the coffee recipes to help you in weight loss:

  • Bulletproof coffee

The underlying requirement to stay fit is to avoid all the additional ingredients used to make coffee like – milk and sugar. Bulletproof coffee is the perfect recipe fulfilling this criterion. Purchase freshly ground coffee powder which is now available in all supermarkets, at times, even prepared in front of the customers. Brew a teaspoon of this coffee powder in a cup of hot water. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil or MCT oil to it. You can also add a teaspoon of unsalted butter to get the creamy texture. Now, give this entire mix a good stir to get your super energetic bulletproof coffee ready.

  • Coffee smoothie

Smoothies are one of the quick, easy and healthy recipes that can be added to your breakfast. With coffee being the main ingredient, a small hack that can be followed is to have decaffeinated coffee or unsweetened cocoa powder instead of your routine coffee powder. In a blender, add cubes of one frozen banana, one spoon of coffee or cocoa powder, one spoon of homemade peanut butter, a little amount of toned milk or yogurt, a spoon of wild honey, a spoon of chia seeds preferably soaked the previous night and cubes of ice. Blend all the ingredients and your coffee smoothie is ready.

  • Protein-rich coffee shake

In this recipe, along with coffee powder, the protein powder that we add also plays an important role. The recipe for homemade protein powder is to dry roast nuts like cashew, peanuts, almond, walnuts etc. and grind them into nice powdery form. Put it in an airtight container and store it for later use as well. In a blender, add a tablespoon of this protein powder, a teaspoon of coffee powder or unsweetened cocoa powder, a spoon of homemade peanut butter, two or three deseeded black dates and a little amount of toned milk or yogurt. You can even add ice cubes, in case you’re a fan of cold coffee. However, just in case you like your coffee served hot, then take all these ingredients in a pan and give it a boil.

Benefits of coffee

The main benefit of coffee is the instant energy that it provides- both physically and mentally. The caffeine boosts the brain, but the intake should be at a controlled level. Coffee helps to burn the fat content which is the main reason behind weight gain. It even induces loss of appetite thus, helping in weight loss. Further, it is believed to even lower the risks of diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Therefore, a diet plan even along with coffee (at controlled level) can be good and healthy.
